Sok Kong is a 4-year-old pre-schooler from Cambodia. He is the youngest of four siblings and lives with his parents and brothers in Phnom Penh City. His parents run a grocery store from their home to support Sok Kong and his siblings.
In November 2023, Sok Kong accidentally spilled hot soup on his lap, burning the area behind his right knee. As a result of the burn, Sok Kong developed scars on his thigh and behind his knee. These scars are thick, raised scars that formed after the burn on his leg and now he is unable to fully straighten his knee and he feels discomfort and itching in that area.
Hoping that the burns will not affect his walking in the future and when he attends school, Sok Kong’s parents went to the Children’s Surgical Centre to seek treatment.
On July 16th, surgeons will perform a burn contracture release surgery to fix the skin area that inhibits his ability to walk or sit, and prevent larger and more noticeable scarring in the future. Now, Sok Kong’s family needs help to raise $395 for his procedure.
Sok Kong’s mother said: “We hope that the burns will not affect his walking in the future and when he attends school.”

We are grateful to share an update on Sok Kong’s journey!
Skilled surgeons at CSC successfully released the burn contractures on his leg and applied skin grafts to heal his open wounds. After spending several days in the hospital to ensure the grafts were healing well, Sok Kong was finally able to return home, filled with hope for the future.
Rehabilitation and physical therapy are now essential for Sok Kong to regain flexibility and strength in his leg. He and his mother have been actively working with our dedicated physiotherapy team on exercises designed to improve his range of motion and build strength. These efforts will significantly enhance Sok Kong’s quality of life and independence as he grows.
Sok Kong’s mother says: “I am so grateful that my son has received this much needed treatment. He looks forward to playing and keeping up with his older siblings.”
