Jardel is a preschool student and an only child. His father sadly passed on early last year. Jardel is under the care of his mother who does not have a source of income. Jardel and his mother live at their elderly grandmother’s home. The family does not have the financial capability to cover medical bills and relies on relatives for support. For over two years, Jardel has been experiencing nasal blockage, pain and difficulty swallowing. Jardel is unable to eat well and his mother reports that he also struggles to sleep. Jardel was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which are the soft tissue behind the nasal cavity. Without treatment, this condition will cause Jardel's symptoms to persist and possibly even intensify. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $818 to fund an adenotonsillectomy for Jardel, which is scheduled to take place on January 12th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, relieving Jardel of his symptoms and helping him live more comfortably. Jardel's mother shared, “Jardel sleeps with a lot of difficulties. He snores a lot and struggles to breathe. He also has difficulties in eating, particularly solid foods.”

Lay is a 74-year-old grandfather from Kampong Cham province. He has been married for many years and has two daughters who are both married, and four grandchildren. Before Lay retired, he was a rice farmer with his wife. They are now supported by their daughters, who live nearby. At home, he likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit with his grandchildren. Three years ago, Lay developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision and pain. He is unable to go outside in the bright sun or travel far from home due to poor vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own. When Lay learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for five and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 6th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Lay shared: "I am hoping after surgery I can finally see better and take care of myself."

Chhin is a 63-year-old retired rice farmer, living with his wife and daughter in Cambodia. Altogether, Chhin and his wife have one son, one daughter, and seven grandchildren. His daughter has taken over running the farm and Chhin enjoys visiting with his grandchildren. Three years ago, Chhin developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him tearing, sensitivity to light, and blurry vision. Because Chhin's vision is compromised, he is reluctant to go out on his own. Chhin sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. As a result, he is now scheduled to have the cataract removed, and to have an intraocular lens implanted in his eye on December 5th, at Kien Khleang Rehabilitation Centre. Chhin needs your help to fund this $253 procedure, which will enable him to see clearly, once again. Chhin shared: "I hope after surgery I can see well. I want to help my daughter with the work at the rice field, and go outside by myself without being afraid I will fall."
