Nduta is a young girl from Kenya. She is the first born in a family of eight children. She lives with her family in a three-room iron house. Her mother is a casual laborer, often washing clothes to earn a living. Nduta’s father works at a construction site.
While studying late at night using a kerosene lamp, Nduta fell asleep. She awoke with painful burns on her body. Now, Nduta has post-burn contractures on her elbow and stomach. Essentially, the muscles in these areas have shortened and hardened.
Nduta is unable to attend school, and she fears using kerosene lamps. She cannot extend her arm fully. Without treatment, Nduta would be permanently disabled.
Fortunately, on November 2, 2016, Nduta underwent a contracture release procedure. Now, her family needs help to fund this $1,176 treatment, which should significantly improve Nduta’s quality of life.
