Junior is a 43-year-old man from Haiti. He lives with his wife and three daughters and travels throughout the country for his work as an air-conditioning installation technician. Junior has a cardiac condition called rheumatic aortic regurgitation. One of the four valves of his heart no longer opens and closes properly as a result of an infection that he suffered earlier in his life. As a result, his heart can no longer adequately pump blood through his body, leaving him weak and short of breath.
Junior will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On August 26th, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which Surgeons will remove his damaged valve and implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, is contributing $28,000 to pay for surgery.
Junior’s family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover labs, medicines, and checkup and follow-up appointments. It also supports securing travel documents and supporting social workers from our medical partner, who will accompany Junior’s family overseas.
Junior says, “My entire family is so happy to know that there is a chance for my heart to be fixed.”
