Htwe is a 12-year-old student from Thailand. He lives with his uncle's family, while his parents work in Bangkok. He enjoys playing football with his friends. Two years ago, Htwe's right eyelid became swollen and red, and by July 2021, the swelling worsened. He was able to feel a small mass in his right eyelid and developed double vision. Htwe was diagnosed with a cyst in his right eyelid. The doctor planned to surgically remove the cyst in early February, but he decided to postpone the surgery because he was worried about what was causing Htwe's symptoms. Doctors want Htwe to undergo a CT scan so that they can diagnose his condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) is requesting $414 to cover the cost of Htwe's CT scan and care, scheduled for February 20th. Htwe said, “I have difficulty studying and doing my homework because I cannot see clearly."

Sokhoeun is a 57-year-old grandmother of 16 grandchildren. She lives with her husband, four sons, three daughters, and 16 grandchildren in Kandal province of Cambodia. To help provide for her family she works in the rice fields. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio at home or playing with her grandchildren. About two years ago, Sokhoeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. Due to her failing eyesight, she is worried about falling when walking, so chooses not to venture out on her own. When Sokhoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for over four hours to seek treatment. The surgeons at CSC created a treatment plan for Sokhoeun to fix her eyesight. On April 24th, surgeons will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. She said, "I hope after surgery I can see well to plant vegetables around my house, help my daughter with housework, and take care of my grandchildren."

23-year-old Josephine and her two siblings live with their mother in Kenya and participate in small-scale farming for home consumption. Josephine has no source of income but is hoping to pursue a course in hairdressing. On April 16th, 2022, while planting corn on their farm, Josephine slipped and plunged into a hole she hadn't seen. She sustained a fracture in her right leg and surgery was performed to stabilize the bone and help the fracture heal. Two months after the surgery, Josephine started noticing pus accumulating in the affected area. She returned to the hospital and was treated, but her condition did not improve. In October 2022, doctors noted that the hardware that had been placed in Josephine's leg to stabilize the bone had actually caused an infection. Despite the removal of the hardware, the infection has persisted. Josephine has a large mid-diaphyseal sequestrum. This means that her femur bone is infected. As a result, she is unable to use her right leg to walk. If left untreated, the infection can spread, and potentially result in an amputation. With the assistance of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Josephine has been scheduled for a Right Femur Sequestrectomy and Exfix to clear the infection and strengthen the bone, allowing it to heal completely. The surgery, which will take place at AIC Kijabe Hospital on April 17th, will enable Josephine to walk easily again so that she can farm and pursue the course in hairdressing. She and her family need your help to raise the $1,500 to fund her treatment. Josephine says, “I want to go to college and do a course in hairdressing. I am unable to pursue this dream since I have a broken bone that needs to be attended to.”
