Phannan is a 17-year-old student from Cambodia. He is an only child and lives in Kampong Speu province with his mother; his parents are separated and he is not in contact with his father. His mother sells drinks and snacks at a small convenience store from their home to support them. Phannan is currently in tenth grade, and his favorite subject is geography. When he grows up, he wants to become a police officer. During his free time, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends and helping out at his mother’s store.
Phannan was struck by a car while leaving school in December 2024, resulting in a fractured left humerus or the upper arm bone, a fractured clavicle, and subsequent nerve damage to his left wrist. He had surgery at a local hospital to repair the humerus fracture. Unfortunately, six months after this surgery, Phannan still experiences numbness in his left elbow that extends down to his forearm, and he has involuntary thumb movements. Additionally, he cannot lift his left hand upward at the wrist, which hinders his ability to grasp or lift objects. He needs to undergo a tendon and nerve repair procedure to help regain strength and mobility.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Phannan receive treatment. He is scheduled for the tendon and nerve repair procedure on May 20th. Phannan and his family can contribute $100 to his care but need help raising $472 more for the procedure.
Phannan shared, “ I want my hand to be normal again and be able to hold things like before.”
