Srey Nich is a 22-year-old mother of two from Cambodia. She is married and lives in Siem Reap Province with her husband, who works at a rice mill. They have two children; her first child attends kindergarten, and her youngest child is two years old. In her free time, she takes care of household chores and enjoys listening to music. On the 20th of February 2025, Srey Nich was involved in a motorcycle traffic accident that caused a right femur fracture and an open fracture of her right tibia. After the accident, doctors repaired her right femur with a metal plate and screws. Her right tibia was initially stabilized with an external fixator, which was later replaced with a metal plate and screws. She also received a skin graft to help treat the wound on her right tibia. Although her femur and tibia fractures have healed, she developed a chronic infection around the hardware in her right tibia. She has persistent pus discharge from the wound on the inner side of her right lower leg and a fixed ankle deformity that keeps her foot in a pointed position. This affects her ability to walk normally and makes daily activities and caring for her children more difficult. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 5th, Srey Nich will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will help control the infection, support proper healing, and improve her ability to walk and perform daily activities more comfortably. Her family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $328 more to fund her procedure and care. Srey Nich said, “I hope this surgery will heal the infection and improve my leg so I can walk more easily, become more independent, and return to my normal daily activities.”

Sopheara is a nine-year-old student from Cambodia. He is the only child in his family and lives with his parents, who are rice farmers. He enjoys reading and writing Khmer and likes making toy cars in his free time. His favorite foods are fried pork and chicken. He wishes to be an architect when he grows up. Sopheara was born with unilateral incomplete cleft lip and cleft palate. He underwent surgery for the condition, but there is still a gap in his gums that affects his eating, speaking, and symmetry of his face. Sopheara needs surgery to close the gap. Fortunately, Sopheara visited our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for further treatment. There, surgeons will perform an alveolar bone graft procedure on September 8th. CSC is requesting $665 to fund Sopheara's treatment and care. After treatment, the alveolar bone graft (ABG) will help fill the gap in his gum and support the development and stability of his upper jaw. It may also make eating and speaking more comfortable and improve the appearance and symmetry of his smile as he continues to grow. Sopheara's mother said, “I am happy that my son can receive this surgery. I hope the bone graft will help repair his gum and support his teeth as he grows. I want him to have a healthy smile and feel confident when he goes to school and meets other people.”

Mcdonald is a 66-year-old father and grandfather from Malawi. He and his wife live in a small village, where they depend on farming maize and groundnuts for their livelihood. Farming has always been an important part of their lives, but his illness has gradually made it difficult for him to continue working in the fields. Six years ago, Mcdonald started experiencing uncomfortable symptoms, and a reliance on the catheter. As his health progressively worsened, he could no longer work on the farm, leaving his younger sister to help with the farming. McDonald and his family decided to seek a lasting solution for his condition. He was advised to seek care at Nkhoma Mission Hospital, a journey that took 5 hours. At the hospital, Mcdonald was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Physicians at Nkhoma Hospital determined that Mcdonald should undergo a prostatectomy, a surgery to remove part or all of the prostate. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $530 to fund this procedure. The treatment is scheduled to take place at Nkhoma Hospital on September 9th and, once completed, it will hopefully improve Mcdonald's quality of life. McDonald said, “I am hoping that with the surgery treatment, I can finally be free from the catheter and return to the life I had before. I want to go back to my farm, work again with my wife, and enjoy my family without constantly worrying about my health.”
