Makune is a 17-year-old secondary school student from Uganda. He is the youngest in a family of ten children, where both parents depend on small-scale farming to provide food for the household.
For over three years now, Makune has had a right inguinoscrotal hernia, a condition where abdominal tissue protrude through a weak spot in the abdominal wall and extend down into the scrotal sac. The condition has been causing recurrent swelling, accompanied by persistent lower abdominal pain. This has had a major impact on his daily life, affecting both his education and social well-being. Makune often struggles to participate in sports and other physical activities with his classmates. Additionally, he is often unable to help with household and farming activities.
Fortunately, on September 1st, Makune will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rwibaale Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Makune’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Makune’s father says: “I hope that my son will be relieved from the pain, and resume school after recovery.”
