Sandra is a 14-year-old teenage girl from Kenya. She is in 8th grade and the youngest of eight children, raised by their mother as their father has passed away. Sandra’s mother grows maize and takes on casual jobs in the neighborhood to support her family.
Sandra was born with syndactyly on her right hand, a condition where fingers are webbed or fused and appear shorter than other fingers. This has made her adapt to using only her left hand to perform her daily activities.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Sandra receive treatment. On December 10th, surgeons will perform a contracture release surgery so Sandra can use her right hand. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,239 procedure.
Sandra says, “I have been physically challenged for a while using my left hand, and it’s difficult to perform my day-to-day activities. I am looking forward to using my right hand to hold a pen to improve my function in school and in the future.”
