Sovannary is a 7-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives in a small community in Kandal province with her parents and two siblings. She is the middle child in the family. Her older sister is studying in Grade 7, and her younger brother is 4 years old. Her father works as a truck driver, often spending long hours away from home to earn income for the family, while her mother stays at home to care for the children and manage household chores. Sovannary is currently studying in Grade 2, enjoys learning mathematics, and dreams of becoming a police officer when she grows up. In her free time, she enjoys playing with toys with her brother. Her favorite foods are Tom Yum soup and grilled pork. For the past two years, Sovannary has been experiencing a sore throat, difficulty breathing and swallowing, and loud snoring at night. These symptoms make it hard for her to eat comfortably and sleep peacefully. Because she does not rest well at night, she often feels tired during the day and has difficulty concentrating at school. Sovannary was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sovannary, which is scheduled to take place on March 2nd. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sovannary of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Her mother said, “When I hear her struggling to breathe and snoring loudly at night, I cannot sleep because I worry about her. I truly hope this treatment will help her breathe easily, sleep well, and live happily like other children her age.”

Zay Yar is a 12-year-old girl from Burma. She lives with her parents, grandmother, an older brother, and a younger sister in Karen State, Burma. Her parents are farmers, while she and her siblings are students. The family also grows some corn for selling. When she was around three or four months old, her mother noticed that Zay Yar had a small mass on her left upper eye. She was brought to the hospital but the doctor said there was no need to worry and that it didn't have to be treated. Recently, however, the mass started to grow bigger. Doctors want Zay Yar to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $414 to cover the cost of Zay Yar's CT scan and care, scheduled for April 3rd. Zay Yar's mother said, "Zay Yar's left eye has some blurred vision due to the mass slowly increasing in size and covering her eye. I worry about her condition as it is gradually getting worse."

Jeremiah is a two-year-old baby boy born to humble small-scale farmers in Uganda. Since birth, Jeremiah has been suffering from hydrocele, a collection of fluid in the scrotal sac, which causes it to swell. The condition has been causing him much discomfort and pain, especially when playing with other children his age. As the condition persisted, Jeremiah’s mother became increasingly worried about his health and future well-being. Determined to seek help for her son despite the family’s financial hardships, she brought him to our medical partner's care center, Rushoroza Hospital for assessment. Jeremiah needs to undergo a hydrocelectomy, a surgery to correct the condition and prevent future complications. Doctors have explained that if the hydrocele is not treated in time, the accumulated fluid may later become infected and could expose Jeremiah to serious complications such as testicular torsion, chronic pain, and health problems that may interfere with his growth and development. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Jeremiah receive treatment. On June 2nd, he will undergo hydrocele repair surgery to restore his health, relieve pain, and help him grow into a healthy child like his peers. Now, Jeremiah's family needs help to fund this $220 procedure. His mother says, “Every mother dreams of seeing her child healthy and happy. I pray for support, so that my son can receive treatment and grow without pain.”
