Koun is a 76-year-old grandfather from Cambodia. He is married with four sons, four daughters, and 13 grandchildren. During his free time, he enjoys listening to monks pray and partaking in ceremonies at the local pagoda.
One year ago, Koun developed a cataract in each eye. A cataract is a condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively opaque, causing blurring vision, frequent tears, and sensitivity to light. Koun has trouble seeing, recognizing faces, and navigating anywhere on his own.
Koun traveled two hours to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Partner (CSC), for treatment. Surgeons at CSC recommend replacing the lenses with artificial ones, and they are requesting $292 to help fund the procedure. On May 17, Koun will undergo the surgery. Afterward, Koun will be able to see clearly again.
