Saroeun is an 81-year-old retired teacher who lives in a rural province in Cambodia with his wife and one of his daughters. Saroeun has a total of seven children and ten grandchildren. His wife and daughter both work as rice farmers to support the family. At home, Saroeun enjoys listening to the Buddhist radio station and walking around the village. About three years ago, Saroeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Saroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Saroeun is able to contribute $100 towards his medical costs but needs help raising the remaining $153 to fund the procedure. Saroeun says, "I hope that after surgery I will regain clear vision and be able to read again."

Meet Koemseng, an 11-year-old boy from Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia. His parents work as construction workers and his younger brother is in kindergarten. Koemseng is currently in 5th grade and enjoys his Khmer history class. At home, he likes to eat fried fish and eggs with rice and plays with his little brother. When Koemseng was six years old, he had a fever and received an injection in his left thigh at a local clinic. This caused quadriceps contracture, where the muscle became abnormally tight and shortened in his left leg. This condition left him unable to fully flex his left knee and caused an unusual walking pattern. A local hospital suggested that Koemseng's parents visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), to seek help. Koemseng and his parents traveled for two and a half hours for diagnosis and treatment. On July 17th, Koemseng will undergo surgery on his left leg which will help lengthen and release the tight muscle, allowing the knee to bend more freely and improving overall leg function. Koemseng's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $472 more to fund this procedure. Koemseng's father hopes that Koemseng can walk better and return to school to see his friends as soon as possible.

Grace is a six-year-old girl and the youngest of three siblings, all school-going. Both of her parents work for the Uganda police force, and in addition to their own children, they are also caring for four other children left behind by Grace's uncle who lost his life at war in Somalia. Unfortunately, their low income makes it challenging for them to provide for their large family, especially when it comes to covering medical expenses. Since birth, Grace has suffered from an umbilical hernia, a condition in which the intestine protrudes through the abdominal muscles at the belly button. This has been causing her significant abdominal pain, particularly after eating and when sitting or walking for extended periods. Recognizing the need for medical intervention, her mother brought her to our medical partner's care center, Nyakibale Hospital, where she was examined, underwent a scan and surgical repair was recommended. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Grace receive treatment. On September 3rd, she will undergo hernia repair surgery, relieving her of painful symptoms and treating the medical condition. Now, Grace's family need help to fund this $230 procedure. Grace's mother says, “The only joy I’ve ever dreamt of is seeing my daughter in good health. I truly believe that with your support, she will be able to undergo the much-needed surgery, and I have faith that she will certainly get well."
