Benson is a young, 26-year-old man from Kenya. He resides in Kiambu County, about 6 kilometers from Nazareth Hospital, with his brother. The two left their home in Kitale and came to Kiambu in search of jobs. He works as a mechanic to support himself and his brother. He is the third child in a family of five.
On October 16th, he was hit by a vehicle near his home as he was trying to cross the road. He was taken to Kiambu Hospital, where x-rays were done and confirmed he had sustained an open fracture of the tibia/fibula of the right leg. He stayed in the hospital for many days, hoping to undergo surgery.
After staying for one month in the hospital without any treatment, his brother decided to take him home. Later, a community health volunteer got word about Benson’s predicament. She brought his x-rays to Nazareth Hospital and showed them to a surgeon, who recommended surgery. Unfortunately, Benson and his family are not able to pay for this surgery and needs help.
On December 2, surgeons will repair Benson’s fractures with a procedure called an open reduction and internal fixation. After treatment, Benson will be able to use his leg, and the fracture will heal without deformity or malunion. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,048 to fund this procedure.
“My wish is to get treatment. It’s been more than a month with pain from a broken leg. I kindly request for help so that I can be treated and get back on my foot, and go on with my life normally,” said Benson
