Baraka is an inquisitive four-year-old boy who loves to play ball with friends. At a young age, Baraka was in an accident which left him with a burn contracture on his left foot. The contracture is caused by the tightening and thickening of the burned skin as it heals. Because of the contracture, Baraka is unable to wear shoes or walk properly.
Baraka’s parents are small-scale farmers that grow maize and beans. Their income depends on their farm’s harvest and with six children to provide for, they can’t afford the the surgery their son needs.
For $505, the surgeons at our medical partner will be able to perform a Z-plasty surgery to release the tightened skin on his left foot. The surgeons believe this procedure will significantly improve Baraka’s gait. Baraka’s parents long for their son to be able to walk properly and wear shoes. Let’s help Baraka do just that!
