At 39 years of age, Sarah is a devoted mother of two children, and a small-scale farmer, living in Uganda. She has built her life around hard work, perseverance, and the unwavering love she has for her family. Every planting season brings hope for a better harvest, but every day is also a struggle to make ends meet.
For more than four years, Sarah has carried a burden that has slowly robbed her of her comfort, confidence, and ability to work. It began as a small swelling in a sensitive area. At first, it caused only minor discomfort, and she hoped it would disappear on its own. Instead, the swelling gradually increased in size, becoming more uncomfortable, and interfering with her daily life. The swelling has become a constant source of pain and embarrassment. Simple activities such as walking long distances, working in the garden, carrying out household chores, and even sitting comfortably are difficult. Despite the discomfort, Sarah continued working because her family depended on her.
Determined to find relief, Sarah sought medical care from several health facilities, and although she was given medical attention and medications, the swelling persisted. Just when she was beginning to lose hope, Sarah heard a moving testimonial on the radio from a patient, who shared how the Watsi/AMH program had helped them receive life-changing surgery at Rushoroza Hospital.
Inspired by this story, Sarah made the journey to Rushoroza Hospital, hoping that she, too, would find an answer to her years of suffering. At the hospital, she underwent a thorough medical evaluation, and was diagnosed her with a right Bartholin cyst. Without treatment, the mass could continue to enlarge, become infected, cause severe pain, and significantly affect her quality of life. The surgical team recommended a major mass excision as the most appropriate treatment.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Sarah receive treatment. On July 16th, surgeons will remove the mass, relieving more than four years of suffering, and restoring her ability to care for her family with dignity and hope. Now, Sarah needs your help to raise $261 to fund this procedure.
She says: “For more than four years, I have lived with this swelling, hoping that one day I would find treatment. I visited different health centers, but my condition never improved. When I heard someone sharing on the radio how they had been helped through the donor program at Rushoroza Hospital, I found hope again, and decided to come here. The doctors have now told me that surgery is the treatment I need, but I cannot afford the cost. I humbly appeal to the donors to support me during this difficult time.”
