Hanns is a small-scale farmer who works alongside his wife. They grow beans for home consumption and part of their produce is sold to get other life necessities. Hanns is a father of five, his eldest now 22 years old. The youngest is 4 years old and is in preschool. Hanns owns a three-room permanent house.
For two years, Hanns has had a right inguinal hernia. He reports to have developed a small and painless swelling around his inguinal region that later started increasing in size. It protrudes whenever he coughs or carries a heavy load. Sometimes it is visible whenever he stands for a long period of time. He has never visited any health facility for fear of the medical charges which he currently cannot afford. Fortunately, on December 9th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $170 to fund Hanns’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Hanns says, “I hope to continue with farming after recovery so that I may be able to support my family further.”
