Vivian is a student from Kenya. She is eight years old girl and the firstborn child in a family of two children. Vivian is a friendly and hard working girl both at school and at home. She is currently in class four, Vivian loves to help her mother with house chores and she always wants to learn new things. Her parents depend on farming to care for the family.
One evening in October, Vivian had been left at home with her younger brother as their parents went to work on their farm. As it was getting dark and their parents had not got back home, Vivian decided to boil water and give her younger brother a bath. She had not done it before but seeing how late it had gotten, she thought she could help her mother by giving her young brother a bath. As she was trying to take the pot from the fire her cloth caught fire in the process, as she was screaming and trying to take her clothes off. A neighbor came to her rescue and saved her. Her parents were called and she was rushed to a hospital. Her wounds were attended to at the hospital and over a couple of weeks they got better. But soon her mother noticed she had a contracture under her right armpit. The contracture is making it difficult to raise her arm.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Vivian receive treatment. On November 15th, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help her use her arm easily again. Now, she needs help to fund this $608 procedure.
Vivian’s mother says, “My daughter is now limited in her daily life activities due to the contracture on her arm please help treat her.”
