Chhav is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has three sons, four daughters, and seventeen grandchildren.
Four years ago, Chhav developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurred vision, itchiness, irritation, cloudy lenses, and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Chhav learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for five and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 6, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure.

Chhav underwent cataract surgery.
Chhav has returned home after a successful operation. As per his doctor’s instructions, he had surgery in one eye, and will need to return in a few weeks to have surgery on the other eye. Chhav’s vision has been restored, and he will be able to work and go about his daily life with improved vision. His doctor looks forward to seeing him again in a couple weeks.
He says, “I am very happy that I can see everything well again. I am looking forward to leading an independent life again.”
