Meet Kim Chea, a retired, 79-year-old grandmother, living in Kampong Thom province in Cambodia. She has five sons, five daughters, and fifteen grandchildren. Before retiring, she sold plates and dishware in the market. She currently lives with her husband and her youngest daughter, who sells papaya to earn income for the family. One year ago, Kim Chea developed a cataract in her left eye, which resulted in chronic discomfort and has also compromised her ability to see clearly. Kim Chea sought help for her condition from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On February 6th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After recovery, Kim Chea will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Kim Chea said: "I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can join ceremonies at the pagoda."

Misheck, who is two years old, is the youngest of four children in a family that lives in the Dedza District of Malawi. His parents are divorced, and because his father no longer supports the family, his mother depends on growing maize and groundnuts to provide for her children. For four months, Misheck has been experiencing painful swelling on the right side of his scrotum. The swelling appears when he cries or strains himself. His mother took him to several health centers where he was given medicine, but they did not alleviate his discomfort. His uncle decided to bring Misheck to the hospital for evaluation, where he was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia. Misheck requires surgery, which his family cannot afford. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is here to help. On May 4th, Misheck will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, which will cost $421. Without this treatment, Misheck faces the possibility of developing life-threatening complications, such as hernia strangulation. His family is looking to you to help raise the funds to cover the costs of Misheck's surgery. Misheck’s uncle says: “I am glad that my nephew will get the help he needs, and I look forward to his full recovery."

Hatsumi is a 19-month-old baby who lives with her parents and five older siblings. Her mother sells flowers in the market and her father takes care of her and her brothers and sisters at home. Hatsumi was born with a cardiac condition called ventricular septal defect, where a hole exists between the two lower chambers of her heart, causing blood leakage. This often leaves her weak and short of breath. Hatsumi and her family traveled to our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, to seek treatment. On March 8th, Hatsumi will undergo a surgical procedure where doctors will sew a patch over the hole to prevent blood from leaking through. Now, Hatsumi's family needs help raising $1,500 to fund the procedure. Hatsumi's mother said, "Our family is praying that our daughter will be able to breathe more easily once her surgery is over!"
