Alice is a 45-year-old woman from Malawi. She works as a saleswoman at a shop in town to earn a living. She lives with her sister, and they contribute towards rent and meals together. Alice likes chatting with her sister and enjoys eating chips served with eggs.
For the past seven years, Alice has been experiencing heavy bleeding. Tests revealed low hemoglobin, and Alice underwent a blood transfusion. She was given some iron tablets and birth control pills to help control her menstrual cycle and prevent further bleeding. In 2023, her anemia resumed, and she started bleeding more heavily than before. She started experiencing general body weakness and frequent headaches, which caused frequent absenteeism at work, as she could no longer concentrate. On February 2nd 2025, Alice was seen by a gynecologist and upon tests and further examination, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,363 to fund Alice’s surgery. On April 30th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once recovered, Alice will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Alice said, “ I have suffered a lot, and I trust I will have peace of mind and lead a normal life after surgery.”
