Fedson is 48 years old and a teacher and photographer from Malawi. He is a married father of eight children who lives in the rural area of Lilongwe West.
Five months ago ago, Fedson began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe abdominal pain. He was diagnosed with an ischemic bowel, where a part of his colon did not receive sufficient blood flow. In emergency surgery, doctors removed the diseased colon and created an ileostomy, an artificial opening (stoma) in his abdomen to divert waste while his bowel healed.
Since the surgery, Fedson has lived with the stoma, which has caused him great physical and emotional pain, significantly affecting his quality of life. Once stable, doctors advised an ileostomy reversal surgery. On the 25th of August 2025, he was referred to our medical partner clinic, Partners in Hope Medical Center, where the surgeon confirmed he was fit for ileostomy reversal. This is a procedure to reconnect the small intestine and restore normal bowel movements.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,244 to fund Fedson’s surgery. On September 3rd, he will undergo surgery at Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully greatly improve his quality of life.
Fedson said, “I miss teaching, kindly help with surgery to resume teaching my class, plus photo shooting.”
