Evenson is a toddler from Haiti. Evenson lives in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince with his parents. He is their first child. His father is currently seeking employment and his mother stays home to care for him. Evenson has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This involves several related defects including a hole between two chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage in one of the heart’s valves. As a result, not enough oxygen is delivered to his body, leaving him sickly and weak. Without surgery, the condition would be fatal.
Evenson will fly to Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On September 16, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will close the hole in his heart with a patch, and surgically remove the muscular blockage of his valve. Another organization, Have a Heart Cayman, is contributing $22,000 to pay for surgery.
Evenson’s family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Evenson’s family overseas.
His mother says, “My family has been very scared about our son’s health ever since he was born. We look forward to him becoming normal and healthy!”
