Edward is a 65-year-old man from Uganda, married with nine children. Earlier in his life, Edward studied up to Primary 3, while his wife did not attend school at all. The couple engages in farming to sustain themselves and meet their basic needs.
For the past 13 years, Edward has been experiencing on-and-off swelling in his inguinal region. He is unable to walk long distances or perform farming activities with ease. He experiences significant pain and has suffered for many years due to this condition. Edward has tried using local herbal remedies for the condition, but there has been no improvement. He was later advised to seek care at our medical partner’s care center, Rwibaale Hospital, for further management.
Edward has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. Fortunately, on June 2nd, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rwibaale Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Edward’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Edward says, “I am hopeful that the pain will be no more after surgery.”
