Myat Su is 35 years old and moved to Thailand from Burma five years ago in order to find work and support her younger sister. Unfortunately, just as Myat Su was moving she became ill with bile duct and pancreatic stones and had to stop working due to the sharp pains, fever, and fatigue.
Before becoming ill, Myat Su had enough money to support herself in Burma and send money to her sister and mother in Thailand. Myat Su says that the pain from her illness has been difficult but her biggest problems are financial. She hopes to get better soon, pay off her medical debts, and resume making enough money to send her sister to school.
For $1500, Myat Su will have her bile duct and pancreatic stones surgically removed. This operation will allow Myat Su to regain her independence so that she can resume her role as her family’s caretaker. Let’s help Myat Su feel healthy once again and live out her dream of seeing her younger sister graduate from school.

The operation went well.
“As [Myat Su] has only just had the surgery she isn’t sure about the long-term benefits of the treatment,” Watsi’s hospital partner tells us. “However, she has already noticed that before the surgery she always felt full and uncomfortable even when she hadn’t eaten but now this has gone away and she no longer feels any pain when she eats.”
“If no one had helped me, then I wouldn’t have been able to do anything, I wouldn’t have been able to get this treatment,” Myat Su says. “I have been going to Mae Sot (the public) hospital for so long and they couldn’t do anything for me; even if I managed to save enough money to go to Chaing Mai by myself, it would have been beyond my reach because I do not have the correct paperwork.”
After having received this operation, Myat Su will be able to work again, take care of her family, and save money. “In the future, she plans to return to Burma to take care of her family, and to open a small shop there with money saved up from working in Thailand,” our medical partner explains.
