Lovian is a small-scale farmer and mom of three from southwestern Uganda. Her oldest child is a tailor, her second child is a teacher, and her youngest is currently studying in school. Lovian completed primary education up to the seventh grade but had to discontinue her studies when she could not afford her school fees. Currently, she engages in small-scale farming, cultivating food crops primarily for her family's consumption and selling any surplus crops for additional income. Lovian's husband works as a brickmaker. Aside from her farming responsibilities, Lovian enjoys singing and is an active church choir member. Ten years ago, Lovian began to experience troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling, shortness of breath, a hoarse voice, and paralysis in her neck vein. These symptoms have severely impacted her ability to carry heavy items, thus limiting her ability to work. She was diagnosed with nontoxic goiter and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Lovian receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 12th at AMH's care center. During this procedure, surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. AMH is requesting $252 to cover the cost of Lovian's surgery. Lovian shared, "I hope for a complete recovery once I am operated on. I will continue with farming in good health."

Seng Heap is a 43-year-old primary school teacher from the Banteay Mean Chey province of Cambodia. Seng Heap lives with her husband who is also a teacher and they have one son who is currently in the sixth grade. When Seng Heap was seven, she had an ear infection. The infection caused a cholesteatoma, or abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. Seng Heap experiences hearing loss, tinnitus, and frequent ear discharge in her right ear due to this cholesteatoma. Although Seng Heap visits a pharmacy for medicine when she experiences pain, she continues to get recurrent infections. Now, her symptoms cause Seng Heap to have difficulty sleeping, working, and communicating. She said that she finds it difficult to hear what other people are saying to her and is ashamed that she cannot communicate. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On June 6th, Seng Heap with undergo a mastoidectomy procedure to help regain her hearing. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma that is causing her symptoms. CSC is requesting $926 to fund this procedure. This sum covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Seng Heap said, "I hope I will stop ear infections and improve my hearing after this operation"

Saroeun is a 43-year-old mother of three from Cambodia. She lives in a village with her husband, son, and two daughters. Her husband is a mechanic, and both of her daughters work in a nearby garment factory. Her son is still in school. In her free time, Saroeun enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and watching Cambodian dramas on TV. About one year ago, Saroeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places on her own. When Saroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 10th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Saroeun contributed $75 to her care Saroeun shared, "I hope I can see clearly and start a new job to help support my family."
