Dieuferly is an eight-year-old boy who lives with his large family in Haiti. He is one of seven kids being raised by their single mom who works diligently to support them. When Dieuferly was found to have a cleft lip at birth many people told his mother to abandon him, but she has remained determined to help him grow up strong and healthy.
Orofacial clefts are birth defects in which there is an opening in the lip and/or palate (roof of the mouth) that is caused by incomplete development during early fetal formation. This is one of the most common birth defects and often causes feeding difficulties, middle ear fluid buildup and hearing loss, dental abnormalities, and speech difficulties.
The good news is that Dieuferly’s cleft lip is entirely treatable. For $960, Dieuferly will receive surgical repair of his lip which will help him eat comfortably and continue to grow, improve his speech and breathing, and make him look even more handsome than he already is. Let’s make this happen for him!

Dieuferly received surgery to correct his cleft lip.
The operation was a success!
Joseph is still swollen and recovering from his surgery, so the picture you see here is from before his treatment. But Joseph’s doctors and his family are excited that Joseph can now participate fully in social activities, attend school, and go on to achieve his goals in his life.
“I feel very good because I was very sad about my son’s situation,” says Joseph’s mother. “It was a big problem for me because I didn’t have anything to help my son. I am happy that the surgery has been a success. The lip is better than before and I think it will be totally fixed. I am excited to go back home with him. I cannot wait to have him eating well and gain weight. Thank you very much.”
