Samoeun is a 72-year-old woman with four sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and go to the pagoda.
Three years ago, Samoeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, irritation, itchiness, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things and people clearly, going anywhere on her own, and doing any work.
After learning about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), Samoeun traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On October 11, she underwent a cataract surgery and intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she should be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $292 procedure.
“I hope my eyes can see everything more clearly,” she says, “so that I can help my daughter do housework, like cook food and clean the home. I want to easily go to the pagoda or go anywhere else outside by myself.”

Samoeun underwent successful cataract surgery.
Samoeun’s eye cataract was successfully removed from her right eye, and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, she was given eye drops to reduce inflammation.
Samoeun returned home after surgery, and she has not returned for the same treatment in her left eye. Returning to the clinic can be difficult for patients, as it requires them to take time off work and travel with a family escort. Now that vision has been restored to one eye, however, the second surgery is less urgent than the first. Treatment will be free whenever Samoeun returns.
“I feel very happy that I can see everything clearly again,” says Samoeun. “I can help my daughter do housework, like cook and clean around the home. I can easily go to the pagoda or anywhere else outside by myself.”
