48-year-old Khee Lar lives with her husband in a village near the Thai border. Originally from Burma, they moved to this village looking for better work opportunities. A few months after Khee Lar was married, she began to experience some unusual symptoms. She did not seek treatment at a hospital because she could not afford travel or healthcare expenses. Six years later, her symptoms worsened, so she visited a clinic in Thailand. A medic at the clinic performed a blood test and an ultrasound. Khee Lar learned that she had a mass in her abdomen, and she was referred to our medical partner's hospital, Mae Sot General Hospital. Khee Lar's mass is steadily growing. She has lost her appetite, and the pain prevents her from sleeping. On September 6, she underwent a CT scan to confirm her diagnosis. Hopefully, doctors will be able to develop a treatment plan. Khee Lar used to work with her husband as a day laborer, but her medical condition has forced her to stop working. Her husband's income is not enough to cover the cost of this $414 scan, and they need our help. I want to recover," says Khee Lar, "return home, help my husband with house chores, and go back to work as a day laborer with him."

Loun is an 81-year-old rice and crop farmer with three sons, one daughter, and 21 grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and to go to the pagoda. About two years ago, Loun developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, tearing, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has trouble doing work, recognizing faces, and going outside. Loun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and traveled one hour with her daughter in hopes of receiving care. On October 27, she underwent cataract surgery. For $292, we can pay for this vision-restoring surgery. Loun says, "I hope that my eyes can see clearly, so that I can continue my work on the farm and go anywhere by myself."

Samoeun is a 72-year-old woman with four sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and go to the pagoda. Three years ago, Samoeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, irritation, itchiness, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things and people clearly, going anywhere on her own, and doing any work. After learning about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Samoeun traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On October 11, she underwent a cataract surgery and intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she should be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $292 procedure. "I hope my eyes can see everything more clearly," she says, "so that I can help my daughter do housework, like cook food and clean the home. I want to easily go to the pagoda or go anywhere else outside by myself."
