Reckmar is a two-year old boy from the Philippines. He lives in a small house with his farmer parents. As an infant, Reckmar was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which there is an excessive build-up of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain, which puts harmful pressure on the brain. If left untreated, hydrocephalus can cause permanent brain damage, affecting both physical and mental development. Because of his condition, Reckmar only stays at home with his mother, interacting by tickling and making faces.
Reckmar is now suffering from malnutrition and needs treatment to regain his health and strength, as well as prevent future complications.
Watsi medical partner International Care Ministries’s (ICM) Home-Based Feeding program will provide Reckmar with nutrient enriched food packs to ensure he gets additional food to regain normal weight, and achieve optimum physical and mental development. Staff and community volunteers will make weekly visits to monitor Reckmar’s progress. To help sustain his health, ICM’s professional staff will educate his parents about proper nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and organic vegetable gardening.
$268 will cover the costs of the care Reckmar needs. Let’s help raise the funds!
