Myo is a 19-year-old young man from Burma. His father is a truck conductor, while his mother cares for the children and manages the household. Because of ongoing strife, Myo's family fled from their hometown in Kachin State to Mandalay in December of 2024. His family's displacement and an underlying heart condition interrupted Myo's education, ultimately leading him to leave school in the 11th grade. In addition, his younger sister's schooling was disrupted when Myo could no longer drive her to school. Myo has a heart condition that requires replacement of two heart valves (aortic and mitral) and repair of the tricuspid valve. These valves control blood flow between the heart chambers and are necessary to prevent long-term damage to the heart and lungs. Currently, Myo experiences shortness of breath when walking, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Additionally, he has lost weight and has difficulty carrying out normal daily activities due to his condition. His mother spends most of her time caring for him, leaving her with less time to attend to other family responsibilities. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 for this complex surgery. The surgery is scheduled for November 4th. Following the treatment, Myo will hopefully regain his health and resume his daily activities. Myo’s mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much to the organization and the donors for helping with my son’s treatment costs. I have no words to express how thankful I am. Moo is a 58-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her two daughters in Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand. They moved to Thailand because there was a military airstrike in her village in 2023. In late July, while Moo was collecting vegetables, she fell and broke her left wrist. Due to financial challenges, she did not go to the hospital right away. She cannot grab or squeeze things. She cannot cook or do her own laundry. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Moo will undergo surgery to reset her fractured bones and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for October 2nd and will cost $1,500. This procedure will be able to help Moo be able to do her daily tasks again. Moo said, “Only my daughter works, and we depend on her. Her income is just enough to cover daily needs. We do not have extra money to save. When the accident happened, I decided not to get treatment at hospital because I think it will cost a lot and we do not have money. When I find out the cost of the treatment, I was shocked. I have never imaging having that much amount of money. I feel like I am a burden to my children and those who help me with the treatment cost. I asked not to get surgery, but the doctor told me that, if I do not do surgery, my hand cannot grab things. I still want to work and help around with the housework. Ouksa is a 19-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and currently lives with his wife and parents. The entire family works to farm rice for a living. Ouksa enjoys playing volleyball with his friends in the village during his free time. About three years ago, Ouksa was bitten by a snake on his left hand. He received treatment at a local hospital and was later transferred to another facility for wound debridement. Although the wound healed, he developed a scar contracture affecting his left wrist and hand. The scar contracture limits the movement of his left wrist and makes it difficult for him to use his dominant hand for daily activities and farming. This affects his ability to work comfortably and independently. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Ouksa with his treatment. On August 13th, surgeons at their care center will perform a contracture release surgery to improve the movement and function of his left wrist and hand, making it easier for him to return to his normal daily life. His family can contribute $25, but needs help raising $547 more to fund his procedure and care. Ouksa said, “I hope the surgery will improve the movement and function of my left hand so I can return to farming, do my daily activities more easily, and use my hand independently again.”
