Frola is a farmer from Malawi. She is married and a mother of two boys. Her husband works in South Africa. Frola enjoys caring for her children and eating local meals.
Two months ago, Frola began to experience troubling symptoms, including a small swelling on the right side of her neck. She visited the nearest clinic for support and was treated for tonsillitis, yet there was no change. The swelling started growing faster than expected, and she started experiencing painful swallowing which led to less eating in fear of pain.
Frola visited our medical partner’s care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with nodular goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Frola receive treatment on January 28th. She will undergo a thyroidectomy where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $1,015 and she and her family need help raising money.
“I can’t eat enough due to pains during swallowing, I have hope that surgery will resolve my problems,” said Frola.
