Provia is a hardworking 52-year-old mother of six from Rubanda District, Uganda. She has worked as a small-scale farmer alongside her children for many years, growing crops to provide food and sustain her family. She also enjoys singing church hymns, and used to sing at her church. Lately, however, Provia has had severe abdominal pain that makes daily activities very difficult, and her farm work almost impossible.
Provia’s abdominal pain began 15 years ago, but she initially thought that the pain was caused by strenuous work in the fields. When the pain increased over some months, she decided to seek treatment at a health clinic. The treatment alleviated her pain at first, but over time, it has returned and become more severe. Provia has been visiting different health centers and has been prescribed medication, but these have not helped.
Hoping for better care, Provia decided to travel to our medical partner’s care center, Rushoroza Hospital, on foot, which took around five hours. There, Provia was diagnosed with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, and doctors advised her to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. However, Provia does not have the funds. She wishes to have the surgery so that she can return to her daily activities, live happily, and attend church.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $319 to fund Provia’s surgery. On October 8th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Rushoroza Hospital. Once recovered, Provia will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Provia says, “I pray that I may have a chance to undergo a successful surgery so that I may take good care of myself and my family at large. I really wish God could use you to heal me so that I may be relieved from this pain because I am suffering.”
