Meet Mya, a 46-year-old working mother from Burma. “Mya sells food and handmade snacks for a living,” Burma Border Projects (BBP) tells us. “She hopes that once she is better she can save some money and eventually join her daughter in Bangkok.”
“Mya has been suffering from a uterine fibroid for over three years,” BBP writes. “She currently experiences abdominal pain and vaginal discharge. She also experiences headaches and often gets tired and has difficulty breathing. She can sleep well but she is not able to eat a lot. If she eats more than a few handfuls of food she feels bloated and uncomfortable.”
$1500 will cover costs to treat Mya right now after having experiencing symptoms without any relief for so long. “Treatment will allow her to return to work selling snacks,” BBP continues. “She will be pain-free and happier.”
By funding Mya’s care we can help our medical partner do what they do best and get Mya one step closer to her daughter.

Mya received surgery to remove uterine fibroids.
The surgery was a success!
“After receiving surgery, Mya no longer experiences pain in her abdomen. She feels like she has more energy than before and there is less pressure on her body and her head, relieving some of the aches and strains she previously felt,” describes her doctor. “Mya added that after the surgery she can sleep better than before and no longer suffers from depression or anxiety relating to her condition.”
“Before surgery I couldn’t breathe well and the pain meant that I couldn’t move,” says Mya. “Now I can sleep in any position without any problems. I am looking forward to going back to work where I will sell Burmese noodles. All my friends and family are so happy that I am better now. I want to say thank you to all the donors who donated money and all of the doctors and nurses who helped me. I will never forget the help and I will always be grateful.”
