Prisca is 80 years old and a farmer from Uganda. She has nine children, all of whom now have families of their own and are also farmers. Her childhood was spent farming and herding goats. She remains a strong, hardworking, sociable, and cheerful person. She grows food crops primarily for home consumption, and her husband earns a modest income from a small banana and coffee plantation that helps sustain their family. Her happiest moments are during Christmas Eve when her children visit with their grandchildren, allowing the entire family to spend time together.
For four months, Prisca has been experiencing abdominal pain, backache, and other uncomfortable gynecological symptoms. She has been to different hospitals and was once advised to undergo surgery, but lacking the financial means, she returned home to wait and hope for a solution.
Prisca was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Karoli Lwanga Hospital, where they have a surgical support program for those in need. She was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $219 to fund Prisca’s surgery. On March 13th, she will undergo gynecological surgery, and once she has recovered, Prisca will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Prisca says, “Surgery is the only hope I am left with to have my health restored; otherwise, with my income, I don’t think I will be able to raise the amount of money needed for my surgery. I kindly appeal to you for support.”
