Prisca is a 36-year-old single mother of three boys from Uganda. She lives with her mother, and they both engage in small-scale farming to provide food for household consumption and to sell any surplus for income.
For the past five years, Prisca has had an epigastric hernia. She has been living with an epigastric swelling that comes and goes. However, recently the swelling has increased in size and become more persistent. The condition has significantly affected her ability to work, and she is no longer able to perform her daily activities as before. She also experiences lower abdominal pain. She has sought medical attention at various clinics, where she was given pain medication that did not provide relief. She also tried using local herbal remedies, but her condition did not improve.
Prisca was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Rwibaale Hospital, where she will undergo hernia repair surgery on June 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Prisca’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Prisca says, “I have to take care of my children and my mother, but I no longer work because of the condition.”
