Meet Jeronima, a 64-year-old woman from Guatemala who is living with cataracts that cloud her vision.
Eye health is the final frontier for many diabetic patients (Jeronima has had diabetes for several years), and she now has a new health challenge to overcome. Jeronima’s doctor says she is very motivated when it comes to her health and meticulously follows any directions he gives her.
For $1500, Jeronima will receive bilateral cataract surgery that will dramatically improve her vision. She comes from a poor family who speak only the indigenous language, Kaqchikel Maya (not Spanish, which can make navigating Guatemala’s health system a challenge). She is unable to afford the treatment on her own, but we can help Jeronima regain her eyesight, independence, and quality of life!
