Sreynit is a 13-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal Province with her parents and two younger siblings. Her father works as a Forestry Administration officer, while her mother is a housewife. She enjoys studying Khmer literature and hopes to become a nurse when she grows up. When Sreynit was three months old, she suffered a head injury after a wooden part of her hammock broke and struck her head. She was treated at a local hospital for more than two months and was diagnosed with a brain hematoma. Since then, she has had weakness on the left side of her body, including a contracted left wrist. The weakness has affected her left arm and leg. Her left wrist remains held in a flexed and outward-deviated position, with limited movement and difficulty holding objects. She also has mild muscle atrophy and has difficulty balancing on her left leg, which can affect her mobility and everyday activities. When Sreynit's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On September 16th, surgeons at CSC will perform a joint arthrodesis procedure to fuse her wrist and left thumb MCP joint and to help provide greater stability to her wrist and thumb and improve the position of her left hand. This may give her a more useful grip and make it easier to use her hand during everyday activities and become more independent. Now, Sreynit needs help to fund this $611 procedure. Sreynit's mother said, “I hope the surgery will make my daughter’s left wrist and thumb more stable and help her use her hand more easily. She has had difficulty using this hand for many years, and I hope the treatment will make everyday activities easier for her and help her become more independent.”

Mao is a 73-year-old retired rice farmer from Kampong Thom, Cambodia. She is a widow, as her husband died six years ago due to a heart attack. Now, she has two sons, seven daughters, and 26 grandchildren. She lives with her youngest daughter and enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. About two years ago, Mao developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, similar to looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Mao learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 25th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Mao said, "I hope after surgery, I can see better, easily go out to join ceremonies, and recognize my relatives well."

Dorothy is a one-year-old girl from Uganda. She is the youngest of seven children. Her parents are small-scale farmers. Dorothy was brought to our medical partner's care center, Uganda Martyr's Ibanda Hospital, with a swelling around her umbilical area. Initially, the swelling was small and painless, so the family did not consider it a serious health concern. However, over the past two months, the swelling gradually increased in size, and three weeks ago, Dorothy started to experience pain. She was taken to the hospital and given treatment, but unfortunately, her condition continued to worsen. The pain became severe, making it difficult for her to breastfeed. She also began crying persistently, causing great concern and distress to her mother. Dorothy has an umbilical hernia and needs surgery to address her symptoms. Fortunately, on November 3rd, she will undergo repair surgery, and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $201 to fund her procedure and care. Dorothy's mother says, "I am very happy and grateful to be connected to this program because I cannot manage to raise money for the operation of my daughter. I kindly request donors to consider my appeal. After surgery, I will continue farming activities and working hard to support my family.
