Raymond is a seven-year-old student, currently in lower kindergarten. He is an intelligent boy, having topped his class last year and demonstrating impressive English skills. His parents are separated, and he is their only child, though both have since remarried. Raymond now has a one-year-old stepbrother.
Living with his grandmother, Raymond is an active child who helps with various household chores, such as fetching water and firewood, and cleaning. He enjoys playing football, and his favorite meal is rice with meat.
Since birth, Raymond has had an umbilical hernia, which has resulted in swelling. While it had not caused him pain before, he recently began experiencing abdominal pain, especially when lifting, sitting, bending, or walking long distances. This alarming development prompted his grandmother to take him to a nearby health facility for examination.
Unfortunately, the facility was unable to manage his condition, and he was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Nyakibale Hospital, to see a specialist. After a thorough examination, he was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. The doctors informed his grandmother about the benefits of surgery treatment, and how significantly it could improve his health. However, as both guardians are small-scale farmers, they are struggling to raise the necessary funds for his surgery and are therefore reaching out for support.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Raymond receive treatment. On February 4th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery, to treat his condition and improve his health and well-being. Now, Raymond’s family needs help to fund this $230 procedure.
Raymond’s grandmother says, “Raymond is the only one I live with at home, and he helps me with many tasks. It burdens my heart to see him in such pain, especially since I am also facing financial difficulties. I kindly appeal for your support to ensure the success of his surgery so that he can regain his health and have a brighter future.”
