Puthearith is a 21-year-old former casino worker from Cambodia. He is from Kandal province, and lives with his family - three younger siblings, his father, who works in construction, and his mother, who manages their home and is his full-time caregiver. During his free time, he enjoys playing football, but he cannot play anymore because of his current medical condition.
A year and a half ago, Puthearith was in a traffic accident. He got hit by a car and suffered head trauma, a cerebral bleed, and right hemiplegia or paralysis on the right side of his body. He was treated at a local hospital and discharged to his family after they used all their available funds, still in a coma, with right-sided spasticity. Since then, he has been unable to walk, stand, or lift his right hand, and he has difficulty speaking clearly. He needs to undergo a tendon and nerve repair procedure to help regain strength and mobility.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Puthearith receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo the tendon and nerve repair procedure on September 2nd. His family can contribute $25 but needs help to raise $676 more to fund his procedure and care.
Puthearith’s mother said: “After the surgery, I hope that my son will be able to use his hand and walk again, so he can live more comfortably.”

Puthearith traveled two hours to the Children’s Surgical Center, where he underwent a tendon and nerve repair procedure to improve strength and mobility on the right side of his body. This surgery will help him regain movement in his hand and arm, improve his ability to stand and walk, and reduce spasticity caused by his injury. With these improvements, he will be able to participate more fully in daily activities, communicate more effectively, and regain independence in caring for himself. Puthearith feels hopeful and encouraged after receiving treatment. He is most excited about being able to move his right hand and walk again. He expects that as he continues therapy and rehabilitation, he will gain greater independence, participate more in daily activities, and gradually return to the things he loves, improving both his confidence and quality of life.
Puthearith’s mother said, “I am so grateful to the doctors. I hope my son can use his hand and walk again, and live a more comfortable life.”
