Pree is 34 years old and a homemaker from Burma. She lives with her son and her sister in a refugee camp in Thailand. They had to leave their home in Burma because of the ongoing civil war.
Pree has been living with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, and has had to go into debt to cover medical expenses related to her condition.
In November 2025, Pree started to experience swelling and pain in her left leg, which made it difficult for her to walk. She visited the camp hospital, where she was admitted for a week and given antibiotic injections. Her condition did not improve, and she was transferred to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot Hospital (MSH), where an X-ray was performed. The doctor explained to her that she had an infection in the bone of her left ankle, and she was admitted to the hospital that day for antibiotics. Due to the high costs of her hospitalization, which required her to borrow more money, Pree requested to be discharged after two days and to continue her treatment in the refugee camp.
Doctors want to do further investigation before moving forward with treating Pree. They need her to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which X-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $414 to cover the cost of Pree’s CT scan, scheduled for August 31st.
Currently, Pree experiences some swelling and pain in her left leg, and she cannot stand or walk for prolonged periods. Pree said, “I feel sad and stressed that I do not have any income, and I cannot afford my treatment. I cannot spend much time with my son because of my health problems and ongoing treatment.”
