Dorcus is a one-year-old girl from Uganda. Her mother, Jane, has been breastfeeding her, but she has not been consuming enough calories, and she has become malnourished.
Dorcus was taken to our medical partner’s care center, Bwindi Community Hospital, after she began experiencing respiratory distress and uncomfortable digestive issues. Her doctors advised she be placed on a diet of special foods and monitored in the hospital until her condition improves. This will prevent the long-term effects of malnutrition, such as stunting and poor cognitive development.
She will begin treatment on January 25. Her mother, Jane, and father, David, are unable to cover the full cost of her treatment. They are both subsistence farmers who work picking tea at the tea plantation. They have provided $1 to help subsidize the cost of their daughter’s treatment. Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, has requested the remaining $316 to fund her treatment.
“I would like to say thank you to all the donors,” says Jane. “We will be so happy when our daughter is well again. I wish I could make a basket for them all!”
