Sineth is a 13-year-old 8th grade student from Kampong Cham Province in Cambodia. She lives with her parents and younger sister, who is in Grade 4. Her parents are rice farmers and work hard to support their family. Sineth enjoys studying Khmer literature, which is her favorite subject at school, and hopes to become a doctor in the future. In her free time, she likes listening to music and chatting with her friends. Her favorite food is fried pork with ginger. Sineth has scoliosis, a condition in which the spine curves abnormally to one side, often resembling a "C" or "S" shape. Her spinal curve has gradually worsened over the past three years and is now approximately 50 degrees in the thoracolumbar region. Although she does not currently experience pain, the increasing curvature affects her posture and makes it difficult for her to sit comfortably for long periods. This can make it harder for her to stay comfortable and concentrate during class, and the curvature may continue to worsen as she grows. Sineth's family was referred to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), by another hospital. They traveled approximately four hours from Kampong Cham to seek specialized care. On August 17th, surgeons at CSC plan to perform posterior spinal fusion to help straighten and stabilize her spine and prevent the curvature from worsening. She needs $1,500 in support to cover the cost of her surgery and related medical care. This treatment will help support her spinal health as she continues to grow and allow her to remain active and continue her education. Sineth's parents said, “We hope that this surgery will help straighten and stabilize our daughter’s spine and prevent her scoliosis from getting worse. We wish for her to grow well, stay active, and continue her studies and daily activities with confidence and comfort.”

Phanny is a 58-year-old clothes seller from Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia. She is married and has two sons, two daughters, and three grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who works for an NGO. Five years ago, Phanny developed a pterygium in her right eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, wind, or dust, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Phanny learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for seven hours to seek treatment. Phanny needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the surface of the cornea. This will be replaced with a conjunctival graft to prevent a recurrence of the pterygium. Her surgery is scheduled to take place on July 14th. The cost of her procedure is $298, and Phanny needs your help to raise this amount, which will cover the expenses of medications, supplies, and a two-day hospital stay. Phanny said, "I hope after surgery my eye will stop burning and the irritation will go away, so that I don’t worry about my eye anymore, and I can go back to selling clothes without discomfort."

Surafel is a brave and energetic 11-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He loves playing football and spending time with his older brother. He enjoys learning English and dreams of becoming a pilot one day. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother is a homemaker. Despite the challenges they face, his parents do their best to provide a loving and supportive home for their children. Surafel was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition that affects a sensitive area in his body. If left untreated, Surafel has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Surafel was placed on the hospital’s waiting list for surgery. Later, the hospital liaison office contacted his mother and asked her to bring him to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). For Surafel and his parents, this support has brought reassurance and renewed hope. His mother is grateful that her son has access to the care he needs and is encouraged by the kindness and support they have received throughout the process. Surafel will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 1st. Surafel and his family need your help in raising $1,073 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Surafel’s parents shared their heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Our greatest wish is to see our son healthy and doing well after the surgery.
