Lydia was born on August 18. When Lydia was born, her mother was at a loss for words—a massive swelling was visible from the back of her daughter’s head. Lydia was diagnosed with a defect that is caused by failure of the neural tube to close completely during fetal development.
Lydia lives with her two-year-old sister and parents in a one-room house in Kenya. Lydia’s father is a motorbike taxi operator, while her mother stays at home to take care of the kids.
Lydia’s mother says, “I almost fainted when I got a glimpse of my daughter. I cannot forget how tense I was that day and scared to holding her so as not to hurt her. I however thank God that there is hope for her treatment.”
Lydia will undergo brain surgery at our medical partner’s care center to repair the defect. Surgery is scheduled for August 23 and will cost $929. Let’s help Lydia get treated!
