Tha Zin is a 20-year-old girl from Burma. In June 2014, Tha Zin started to have difficulty breathing and found that breathing was particularly hard while lying down, disrupting her normal sleep. She also started experiencing nausea and vomiting after every meal.
She visited a local hospital where she was diagnosed with a nasal polyp, which is a noncancerous growth in the inner lining of the nasal sinus. Since then, the family has tried many treatments including traditional medicines, but all have failed.
Then, in January of 2015, Tha Zin received surgery for her nasal polyp, reducing the pain and swelling around her nose and eyes and alleviating some of the breathing symptoms she was experiencing. However, quite soon after the procedure, her eyes started to swell again, her vision got worse, and not long after she completely lost her sight.
Seeking further evaluation, her family was referred to our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). BCMF wants to give Tha Zin a CT scan to monitor the state of her nasal polyp, and is requesting $469 to cover the cost of the scan and all other hospital expenses.
