Bean is a 45-year-old fisherman from Cambodia who lives with his father, wife, and their two children: a nine-year-old son and a twelve-year-old daughter, both currently attending primary school. Bean's wife works as a grocery seller, while his father stays at home and helps take care of the children. In his free time, Bean enjoys drinking coffee and watching sports on TV with his friends in the village. Bean has had a tumor near the left side of his jaw, in front of his ear, for eight years without getting treatment. The tumor is about 3 cm long, feels soft, has smooth edges, and has been slowly growing. Bean is concerned about the tumor getting bigger and the chance that it might turn cancerous in the future. Bean traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 15th, surgeons at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Bean is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and needs help raising $173 more to fund the procedure. Bean says, "I've had this swelling near my jaw for eight years now, and I've been worried. I hope to have the mass removed so I can stop worrying about it and go back to work as quickly as possible."

Julius is a 16-year-old teenager from Kenya. He is known as a friendly boy from Matungu village in Kakamega County. Julius is in grade 8 at Lung'anyiro Primary School. His mother passed away while giving birth to him, so he has been raised by his grandmother, who is a farmer. Julius has clubfoot of his left foot. He had a healthy birth, but at the age of four, his grandmother noticed a sudden bend in his left foot. He began to limp and tiptoe while walking. They took him to a nearby hospital, but due to financial constraints, they couldn't continue with the follow-up treatment. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Julius traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on July 18. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,286 to fund Julius's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk well and continue with his studies uninterrupted. He dreams of becoming a doctor in the future so he can help other children. His current situation fuels his ambition to make a difference in the lives of others. "I am looking forward to healing quickly, putting on shoes, walking, running, and playing football like my friends," Julius said.

Srey Nou is a 17-year-old teenager in Cambodia who lives with her parents and two siblings. Her parents work in a pepper plantation to support the family. Srey Nou and her siblings dropped out of school at a young age due to the inability to afford school fees and materials. At home, Srey Nou always helps her mother with housework and likes to play with her siblings. Srey Nou traveled to our medical center, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), presenting with weakness on her right leg and an abnormal gait. At the age of nine, she underwent surgery on her right gastrocnemius muscle at a public hospital to remove a tumor. After a consultation at CSC, surgeons diagnosed her with polio, a virus that mainly affects nerves in the spinal cord or brain stem. Currently, Srey Nou cannot fully straighten her right knee, and her right leg muscles are smaller than normal. Her right hip is also stuck in a bent position. She compensates by hopping on her left leg due to a fixed flexion deformity in her right leg. Although our doctors hoped to save her leg, it was determined that she needs an above-the-knee amputation. On August 1st, she will undergo an amputation and a hip flexor release surgery to help improve her mobility and overall quality of life. The family needs assistance with the $479 to cover the cost of surgery, medications, hospitalization, and physical therapy. Srey Nou's mother shared, "I really hope my daughter will be able to live happily and feel more comfortable."
