Rottanok is an eight-year-old boy who lives with his parents and his younger sister in Prey Veng province in Cambodia. His parents sell food, including rice and soup, to factory workers near their home for breakfast and lunch. Rottanok is currently in grade one, and he loves studying English. In his free time at home, he enjoys playing with car toys.
Rottanok was born with several congenital conditions, including a cleft lip and palate, malformations in both hands, and syndactyly of the left foot. His right thumb is webbed, and he experiences difficulty with wrist movement. He has difficulty gripping objects, writing, and playing with toys.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. Rottanok and his parents traveled to see specialized surgeons and will undergo a right thumb webspace and wrist release procedure to improve the function of his hand. The surgery is scheduled for October 17th. Currently, Rottanok’s parents can only afford $50 for this complex procedure, and they need assistance with the remaining $437 to cover surgery, post-operative care, and medication. After surgery, surgeons hope he will be able to use his right hand more effectively, enhancing his ability to grip objects, write, and participate in activities with his friends and family.
Rottanok’s father said: “We hope that after surgery, Rottanok to use his hand and be successful in school.”
