“Esperanza is a Kaqchikel speaking woman from a remote community where we work,” Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK) tells us about this 29-year-old woman from Guatemala.
“She is a weaver, producing beautiful textiles, mostly for use in the home.” “She came to see us with symptoms of abdominal pain and bloating,” WK writes. “After a workup, it turns out that she has ovarian cancer. However it is at an early stage, which means that with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy, it will be likely curable.”
$1475 will cover the cost of chemotherapy which Esperanza needs right now. “I’m happy to have found help for my condition, and I trust in God that things will turn out well,” this optimistic young woman tells the WK team. Let’s fund Esperanza’s care and help WK take care of the rest.

Esperanza received surgery to remove a tumor that was associated with ovarian cancer.
Her doctor reports, “I have the best possible news to share about Esperanza. Our preliminary workup had detected an abdominal mass consistent with ovarian cancer. Esperanza therefore began treatment, which included resection of the large abdominal mass. The tumor had some confusing features, and so a group of specialists had to review it closely. Their findings were very encouraging - it turns out that the tumor, although large and scary looking, was in fact a benign ovarian tumor, and not cancer at all. This means that, having successfully got through a very large surgery and long recuperative hospital stay, Esperanza is totally cured!”
Esperanza and her husband said, “This treatment was so expensive, and we could never have afforded it. Thanks so much for seeing our need and helping us pay for treatment.”
“This is a great one, and I’m so grateful to Watsi donors for getting it done,” adds Esperanza’s doctor.
