Joy is a 46-year-old business woman from southwestern Uganda. She shared that she gave birth to one child, who sadly passed away at only 6 months of age. While Joy herself has not had any other children, she is now the stepmother to her husband’s three children. To support their family, Joy sells fruit along the highway, while her husband works as a farmer.
For the past 14 months, Joy has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, bleeding and other worrying symptoms. Joy visited the hospital in Nyakibale, where she was diagnosed with multiple uterine myomas, which will need to be surgically removed.
On December 23rd, Joy is scheduled to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale, to have her uterus removed. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Joy’s surgery, after which she will be able to resume her daily activities, free of pain.
Joy says: “I think I will get well because I know once I’m operated on, the condition that has always caused me ill health will be cured.”
