Han is a 74-year-old man from Cambodia. He lives with his elderly wife and their three children. His eldest child climbs sugar palm trees to collect palm fruit and water; his second child works as a photographer; and his youngest child repairs motors. In his free time, he enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio. On October 19, 2026, Han fractured his right thigh bone near the knee after jumping off a boat. He initially received treatment, where his leg was placed in a cast, but it did not provide adequate support for the fracture. The fracture causes pain in his right thigh, especially when he moves his leg. He has difficulty walking and moving around comfortably. Because of the injury, he currently depends on his family for support with daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On November 2nd, Han will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize the broken bone using a blade plate and help it heal in the correct position. It is expected to reduce his pain over time and improve his ability to move his leg and walk again. Han can contribute $37.50, but needs help raising $563 more to help fund his treatment and care. Han's son said, “My father has been in pain since the accident, and I hope the surgery will help his leg heal properly so he can walk again. I want to see him recover, move around without difficulty, and return to his normal life.”

Yirga is a 72-year-old man from Ethiopia. He is a retired gas station worker and lives with his wife. Together, they have four adult children who remain actively involved in their lives. Ten years ago, Yirga underwent cataract surgery on his right eye, which restored his eyesight. Three years ago, doctors found another cataract in his left eye. At first, Yirga could manage his daily responsibilities despite the cataract. However, the cataract continued to grow and affect his sight. Yirga began experiencing challenges with reading, recognizing faces, and performing daily chores. Additionally, he had depth perception issues, making it difficult for him to walk independently. Eventually, Yirga became completely reliant on his children to guide him safely through each day. Fortunately, on November 4th, Yirga will undergo cataract surgery with the help of our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. Surgeons will remove and replace the clouded lens. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure. Yirga hopes to regain his independence and dignity and return to an active life.

Sarey is a 20-year-old rubber farmer from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and five younger siblings. His parents work as day laborers on a rubber farm, and all his younger siblings are still students. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball with his friends in the village. On May 16, 2026, Sarey was riding his motorbike when it overturned at a corner, injuring his right shoulder. He was unconscious for approximately three days and received treatment for one week. However, his condition did not improve, and he was discharged and returned home. He continued to experience difficulties moving his right arm and later came to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for further investigation and treatment. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. This has left him unable to raise or move his right arm. He also experiences nerve pain and reduced sensation from below his elbow to his hand, as well as drooping of his right eyelid. These difficulties affect his ability to carry out everyday activities and limit his independence. On October 21st, Sarey will undergo brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will hopefully be able to regain some movement in his right arm, use his shoulder and elbow more effectively, and perform daily activities with greater independence. He also hopes to return to playing volleyball with his friends. Sarey can contribute $100, but needs help raising $637 more to fund his procedure and care. Sarey said, “Since my injury, I haven’t been able to use my right arm as before, and the nerve pain makes daily life difficult. I hope this treatment will help me regain movement and become more independent so I can return to my usual activities.”
