Thou is a 49-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Thou has two brothers and two sisters, and lives with her parents and one of her sisters. Thou enjoys going to the rice field to get rid of any weeds. In her free time she enjoys listening to music on the radio.
Six months ago, Thou developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her vision loss and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Thou learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for to the hospital seeking treatment. On May 13th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that I will be able to see better so I can go outside and plant the rice well,” Thou said. Her sister added, “I am unhappy to see how difficult it is for my sister to see.”
