Christine is a bright first grader who lives with her three siblings and parents in a two-room house. Her mother and father are both primary school teachers who work hard to make ends meet for their family.
For six years–all her life–Christine has had an umbilical hernia. A part of her intestine bulges through the opening in her abdominal muscles near her navel. She developed this small swelling on her umbilicus shortly after birth, but her mother thought it was a temporary condition. Christine experienced abdominal pain and her mother took her to the health center for treatment. But the pain continues. Now, Christine can no longer lie down comfortably. She has been brought to Rushoroza Hospital to seek medical advice. Surgery has been recommended but the parents cannot afford it.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On October 6th, Christine will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center.
AMH is requesting $170 to fund Christine’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Christine’s mother says, “After treatment, I will thank God, and Christine will be able to continue with her studies and all her other activities with ease.”
